Direction to Use

1. Preparation

Ensure the device is fully charged or connected to a power source.
Confirm the file clip, lip hook, and file probe are properly attached and autoclaved for sterilization.
Check the LCD screen for cleanliness and good condition to ensure clear visibility.

2. Patient Preparation

Inform the patient about the procedure and obtain consent.

Verify the patient does not have:

A pacemaker or other implanted electrical devices

Metal allergies or any contraindications noted in the user manual

Administer appropriate anesthesia before beginning the endodontic treatment.

3. Device Setup

Turn on the Woodpecker DTE DPEX V Apex Locator by pressing the power button.

Allow the device to complete its initialization process.

Adjust the screen brightness if necessary for clear display visibility.

4. Apical Positioning

Select the appropriate file size for the root canal.

Carefully insert the file into the root canal until the tip reaches the apical constriction.
Attach the file clip securely to the file handle and connect it to the device.
Place the lip hook on the patient’s lip to stabilize the connection.

5. Measurement Procedure

Monitor the real-time display on the LCD screen showing the file’s movement inside the canal.
Listen to the audio signals emitted during measurement.
Observe changes in sound and display; these indicate the file’s position within the root canal.

6. Reading and Recording

When the device indicates the file tip has reached the apical constriction, note the measurement displayed.
Gently remove the file from the canal, minimizing disturbance to the measurement.
Record the working length for reference in the ongoing endodontic treatment.

7. Post-Procedure Care

Clean and disinfect the file clip, lip hook, and file probe according to sterilization protocols.
Turn off the apex locator.
Store the device safely for future use.
